Vertical Support46 viewsBecause the baffling sidewalls were so tall we added aluminum angle stock provide support against air loads while allowing for cylinder movement.

Ramp mold overview74 viewsThe ramp that will be bonded to the upper cowl will be laminated against a foam mold. The gap between the NACA scoops is faired with a smooth curve.

Ramp mold side view63 viewsUnfortunately the height of the baffling did not provide enough airflow so it was lowered after this picture and before the ramp was laminated. The foam was radiused in the corners with bondo and covered with duct tape for laminating.

Ramp Fitting48 viewsThe ramp was removed from the mold, trimmed and set in place for final fitting before bonding to the upper cowling.
141_037.jpg
Ramp fitting side view54 viewsThe ramp is resting on both the firewall mounted ledge and the aluminum baffling.
141_038.jpg
Ramp fitting with gap50 viewsThe ramp was molded on a piece of 1/4" foam. This provided space for the silicon gap seal to be added next.

Ramp Seal Installed51 viewsThe silicon seal has been installed and the ramp is ready for being bonded to the upper cowling. With the ramp in place the cowling is installed and a Q-cell/resin mixture is used to radius the edges where the cowling and ramp meet.

Ramp Seal Installed side view51 viewsThe ramp is used to carry the air smoothly from the firewall ledge (permanently mounted to the firewall) to the aluminum baffling which is bent to match the angle of the ramp for a smoothly divergent airflow.

Ramp Seal Installed angle view53 viewsAnother angle looing at the ramp.

Baffling Support and seal surface59 viewsUsing duct tape the baffling and started mount are used as a mold for a bridge piece that will both secure the two baffling halves and provide a smooth surface for the silicon seal.

Final Installation Top Overview63 viewsYou can see the breather routing, oil cooler duct routing and various baffling components.

Final Installation Side Overview67 viewsThe forward view highlights the baffle seal material installed in single piece segments that match the curvature of the upper cowling before the cowl is installed.
